70-473 : Designing and Implementing Cloud Data Platform Solutions

Introduction

One of my targets in the coming year is to learn more about Azure. Recent news shows that Microsoft earnings on Azure is increasing quite a lot and cloud seems to be the future. I've already invested in courses like the Microsoft professional program Data science and the Big data program. These courses are a great resource if you want to know more about big data solutions with Azure and data science with AzureML and R. As said before, I feel more and more confident and familiar with the Azure environment and it's time to pass some Microsoft exams. The first one is the exam 40-473 : Designing and Implementing Cloud Data Platform Solutions. This exam is about the relational databases like SQL Server, Azure SQL database, MySQL and ProgresSQL. The latter two have been added in June 2017 and replaced the SQL Data warehouse section. Why ? I don't know. I'm not into MySQL and PostgresSQL but I want to pass the exam! Therefore I need to study some things I don't really need for my day-to-day basis of work.

Now, I got the idea from MSSQLTips to copy the content of the requirements of the exam and search for relevant content and add them to exam requirements. I've used most of the information that was already present, but reorganized and added my own links for studying the items.

Now for this exams I studied quite some resources. These are sometimes generic information about  SQL Server, SQL database, Azure or else. These help you with some background information:

CBIP certified Today!!!

YES Yup i did it. Today i passed two exams of the CBIP certification: Datawarehousing and Datamanagement. A couple of weeks ago i passed the core examination. So here are the results:
  • Core examnination : 68 %
  • Datawarehousing : 70%
  • Datamanagement : 64%
I thought that datamanagement exam was the easiest one but i miscalculated that.... I had to read some question 3 times before i understood some of the questions.... But i made it. So i like doing it and i think that i will do some exams next year....

About the core examination i talked a couple of weeks ago. See my taglist. The datawarehouse examination was about...off course datawarehousing.  The Data Warehousing exam covers the planning, design, and implementation of the data warehousing environment. It also includes data warehousing functions such as analysis and information delivery, organizational skills required, and roles and responsibilities of the data warehousing professional within the organization.

There were questions about :
  • The ODS classes.
  • Starschemas
  • balanced scorecard.
  • Al lot of questions about metadata, data quality.
  • ETL, etc

The datamanagement exam was the most difficult one or me, for some reason. I expected that  would slide smoothly through this exam... NOT. Some questions were difficult to understand. What is datamanagement exam all about? All business intelligence applications depend on quality Data Analysis and Design. Analysis concentrates on understanding business requirements for data and information. Design focuses on translating business information into data structures. Core skills include information needs analysis, specification of business metrics, and data modeling. Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, architectures, and processes is also essential.

  • What is the essence about datasecurity
  • Definition of metadata.
  • Objectives of improvement of quality.
  • What are typical names of entities, attributes,
  • What is a typical entity type? Strange question .
  • EDI.

Vandaag heb ik een examen gedaan voor het CBIP certificering (Certified Business Intelligence Professional): De core examination. Voor dit examen heb ik me eigenlijk minimaal voorbereid omdat ik de afgelopen week behoorlijk ziek was. Maar goed nieuws: ik ben geslaagd! Ik heb 68% score, 2% minder dan het benodigde aantal voor het master niveau. Dat is dan weer minder. Nou even afwachten hoe ik de andere twee examens (datawarehouse en datamanagement) doe. Mocht ik die boven de 70% scoren dan doe ik deze nog eens over. Is toch wel leuk als ik meteen master niveau kan halen. Een andere examen deelgenoot heeft het net niet gehaald. Hij had 45% score. Dit geeft toch wel aan dat je het examen niet zomaar haalt.

Wellicht voor degene die een beetje willen weten waar het examen over gaat: Er waren zomaar enkele vragen bij van het preparation course (had ik dus niet meer geleerd). Sowieso enkele vragen over Gantt en PERT. Verder waren er veel termen die mij niet direct iets zeiden zoals iets met een check reconciliation en Operations research. Verder ook vragen m.b.t. wat je in bepaalde situaties zou doen zoals hoe je ervoor zorgt dat een boodschap overkomt: zet in een document of kijk of de ontvanger begrijpelijk kijkt. Dus.... Het Examen was dus een beetje bewerkelijk en het engels was niet altijd even makkelijk te volgen. De stof leek me behoorlijk verouderd en zag hierin weinig terug van moderne management vaardigheden en IT mogelijkheden.
